Ravichandran Ashwin hails Ricky Ponting’s ‘cricket literacy’ as the Aussie predicts Cameron Green’s dismissal

One of the most brilliant minds in cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin took to Twitter to hail another maestro of the game Ricky Ponting for his astounding understanding of the game. The duo of Ashwin and Ponting were at blows during the Mankading saga in the IPL a couple of years and more recently were part of the Delhi Capitals setup.

While Ricky Ponting is currently commentating in Australia in the ongoing Ashes series while Ravichandran Ashwin has flown down to South Africa with the Indian team for a three-match Test series. While the two stalwarts of the game are busy in their business, the veteran off-spinner took out some time to laud the Aussies brilliance in the comm box.

Young gun Cameron Green was dismissed off a peach delivery in the second Ashes Test and Ricky Ponting, who was in the comm box predicted it moments before the ball was delivered. As Green took his stand, Ponting pointed out that Ben Stokes might go full at the stumps given Green’s open stance and the very next ball, Stokes knocked over the budding allrounder.

Ravi Ashwin shared a video of the incident as he wrote, “cricket literacy rate”. Ponting has a reputation of being a tactical genius and the incident proved it. Up until the delivery, England and Stokes stuck to the short ball ploy but as soon as Green walked in they went full right on cue from Ponting.

England are in a tough spot in the pink ball Test as Australia look to secure a 2-1 lead. Losing the toss, the visitors conceded a humongous first innings total of 473 before getting bowled out for just 236. The English batting lineup has been dismal in the first two Tests and will have to bounce back if they are to keep their hopes of winning the urn back alive.
