Team India have made things tough for themselves in the ongoing T20 World Cup. India have been ordinary with the bat so far and thus they ended up on the wrong side of the result in their first two games against Pakistan and New Zealand. The defeat in the two matches have put India in danger and they now need support from the other teams to stay alive in the tournament.
The team is currently up against Afghanistan in a must-win encounter at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. After two poor performances, India finally returned back on the track as they showed why they are known as the most lethal batting side in the cricket fraternity.
The opening pair of KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma caused carnage on the field as they hammered Afghan bowlers all over the park. The two stitched a mammoth partnership of 140 runs in 14.4 overs. Rohit slammed 74 runs off 47 deliveries while Rahul added 69 runs after facing 48 balls.
Rohit Sharma ends up as the highest run-getter for India
One of the highlights of Rohit Sharma’s batting innings was the opening batter smashing the leg-spinner Rashid Khan for two maximums off two consecutive deliveries. Rashid is renowned as one of the best spinners and it isn’t easy to score runs against the 23-year-old. Thus, Rohit fetched praises and applause from all over the cricket fraternity.
On the fifth ball of the 13th over, Rohit hit a six over the cow corner. There was nothing wrong with the ball but the form of the opening batter was unmatchable. The next delivery saw Sharma charging a maximum over deep square leg. The exploits by the batter resulted in Rashid going for a whopping 16 runs in the 13th over.
Meanwhile, India finally ended up scoring 210 runs in 20 overs. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya played crucial cameos in the end as they hit 13-ball 27 and 13-ball 35.
