It’s raining runs for the Indian opening batsman Rohit Sharma in the ongoing five-match Test series between India and England. The 34-year-old finally managed to break his image of the home-track bully in Test cricket. Rohit slammed a scintillating hundred on day three of the fourth Test at the Kennington Oval to bring back momentum on the Indian side.

India had a lot to worry about before starting the third innings as they were reeling behind by 99 runs. Opening the innings, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma gave India a much-needed start by stitching a crucial partnership of 83 runs. However, in the 34th over Rahul left Rohit alone on the field.

The Punjab Kings skipper lost his wicket to James Anderson while playing at 46. England were hoping for more wickets to bring India to the backfoot. However, Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara had other plans. While Pujata opted for an attacking approach, it was Rohit who stole all the thunder with his sensible knock.

The 34-yeard-old tactfully built his innings and made sure to not throw his wicket after another good start. It was the third time in the ongoing Test series that the right-hander crossed 50 runs. However, unlike the other times, this time around, Sharma made sure to capitalize on the momentum.

The Mumbai-born played slowly and sensibly to reach his maiden overseas hundred. This is also the eighth century for the limited-overs vice-captain in the purest format of the game. Meanwhile, what made more headlines in the way through which Rohit posted 100 runs in front of his name.

The opening batsman Rohit’s courage to hit the six while nearing his Test century left the cricket fraternity in awe. Also, the Mumbai Indians skipper leapfrogged KL Rahul to become India’s highest run-scorer in the ongoing Test series.

With this hundred, Rohit became the first visiting opening batsman and the second Indian batter after KL Rahul to score a hundred in all formats of the game on England soil be it Test, T20Is or ODIs.
