South Africa vs West Indies player ratings: South Africa outclass West Indies by eight wickets to open their account in the T20 World Cup

After suffering a defeat against Australia in their first match, South Africa finally have a victory to their name. The Proteas got better off West Indies by eight wickets to open their account in the league. It was an all-round performance by South Africa as Aiden Markram led the attack with the bat while Dwaine Pretorius was the pick of the bowler.

Reeza Hendricks (6/10): Playing his first match, Reeza Hendricks was decent with the ball. The opening batter scored 39 runs off 30 balls to give his team a good start.  

Temba Bavuma (c) (1/10): The skipper Temba Bavuma failed to make an impact. Bavuma lost his wicket to a run-out while he was playing at 2 off 3 balls. 

Aiden Markram (9/10): Aiden Markram was as usual brilliant with the ball. The middle-order batter hammered 51 runs off 26 balls to help his team easily chase 144 runs in 20 overs.

Rassie van der Dussen (8.5/10): Rassie van der Dussen also looked in fine form with willow. The 32-year-old played an anchor innings off 43 runs off 51 deliveries.  

Dwaine Pretorius (8.5/10): Dwaine Pretorius was the pick of the bowler for South Africa. The seamer picked a three-wicket haul in his two overs while bowling at an economy rate of 8.5.

Kagiso Rabada (7/10): Kagiso Rabada continued his good form as he picked up a lone wicket in the form of Lendl Simmons. The pace sensation also gave away just 27 runs in his four overs. 

Keshav Maharaj (8/10): Keshav Maharaj bowled a good spell against West Indies as he scalped two wickets while conceding 24 runs in his four overs at an economy rate of 6.

Anrich Nortje (9/10): In terms of economy rate, Anrich Nortje ended up as the most successful Proteas bowler. The 27-year-old gave away just 14 runs in his four overs while he also picked the big wicket of Andre Russell.

Tabraiz Shamsi (3/10): Tabraiz Shamsi succumbed to a poor outing against the Caribbean side. The chinaman bowler was hammered for a lot of runs as he leaked runs at an economy rate of 12.3.

Evin Lewis (9/10): The opening batter Evin Lewis deserves all the credit for the Indies reaching a score of 143. Lewis played a sensational knock of 56 runs off 35 balls including three boundaries and six maximums. 

Lendl Simmons (4/10): Bid things were expected from Lendl Simmons but he walked back after scoring just 16 runs off 35 balls.

Chris Gayle (3/10): Chris Gayle failed to perform once again with the willow. Gayle’s lean patch continues as he was dismissed at 12 runs.

Shimron Hetmyer (1/10): Another power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer also had a below-average innings against the Proteas. Hetmyer was dismissed due to a run-out when he was playing at 1 run. 

Nicholas Pooran (4/10): The wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran ended up with just 12 runs in seven balls he faced. The hard-hitter’s stay at the crease ended as he gave an easy catch to David Miller off Keshav Maharaj.

Kieron Pollard(c) ( 5/10): Kieron Pollard got off to a good start with the bat but he failed to convert it into a big knock. Pollard had to go back after scoring 26 runs. With the ball also, Pollard gave away nine runs in the only over he bowled. 

Andre Russell (2/10): Andre Russell failed to make an impact both with the bat and the ball.  Russell could manage only five runs with the willow while he leaked runs at an economy rate of 10.8 without any wicket.

Dwayne Bravo (6/10): Dwayne Bravo made good efforts with the ball. Though the all-rounder failed to pick up a wicket, he compensated by conceding just 23 runs in his four overs. 

Akeal Hosein ( 7/10): Akeal Hosein is the only West Indies bowler who could pick up a wicket against South Africa. Hosein dismissed Reeza Hendricks while bowling at an economy rate of 6.8. 

Hayden Walsh (4/10): Hayden Walsh was disappointing in his first World Cup game. The spinner failed to pick up even a single wicket.  

Ravi Rampaul (5/10): Ravi Rampaul also failed to get any scalp as he ended up with the figures of 3-0-22-0.
