T20 World Cup: New Zealand announces their squad; Ross Taylor, Colin Munro left out

New Zealand Cricket Team

The New Zealand Cricket Team has named its 15-member squad for the much-awaited 2021 ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Kiwis included several relatively newer faces such as Mark Chapman, Todd Astle, and Devon Conway. However, the likes of Ross Taylor, Colin Munro and Colin de Grandhomme couldn’t find names in the national squad for the multi-nation tournament.

This will mark the maiden International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament to record the absence of Ross Taylor under the leadership of Kane Williamson. Notably, Taylor hasn’t represented the BlackCaps in the shortest format since NZ’s home series against the West Indies in 2020.

Meanwhile, David White, the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) chief executive has expressed his happiness with the selection of the 15 players. He stated:

“I’m satisfied we’ve selected strong squads for all our touring commitments this winter. As the Black Caps proved in England earlier this year, we have good depth in the New Zealand game and I’m confident all the squads chosen will acquit themselves well.”

“Extremely gutted to miss out on this, was definitely a goal of mine that I wanted to tick off. Looks like I may have played my last game for Black Caps, not by choice.”
