Stats Check: How many Test matches Virat Kohli won after losing the toss

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is one of the finest batsmen of the modern era. The Delhi-born has successfully stamped his authority in all formats of the game as his batting records are nothing but sensational and inspirational. Apart from being the greatest modern-day batsman, Virat has also established himself as one of the best Indian captains of all time.

While Virat has mastered many aspects of the game, there is something that is beyond Kohli’s control. One thing that Kohli has failed to master is the technique of winning the toss. The Indian skipper has met with disappointment more often than not whenever he walks in the middle to flip the coin.

It is no surprise that the talismanic captain, who has led India to a lot of memorable victories, is considered the most unlucky skipper in terms of tosses. Virat has hardly had any luck on his side during the toss especially in the purest format of the game. Talking about 2021 only, the 32-year-old has led India in seven matches, losing the toss on six occasions.

Virat Kohli has led India in 63 Test matches

Losing the toss can also impact the overall result of the match as the playing conditions often favor the team batting or bowling first. Thus, there is no denying that India has also faced the repercussions in some instances when the coin hasn’t favored Virat Kohli

Since his appointment as the Test skipper of India, Kohli has led the team on 63 occasions in the purest format of the game. Out of 63 times, the Indian skipper saw the coin flipping in his favor in just 27 matches. There have been a total of 36 Test matches when India has been forced to compromise as Virat lost the toss.

Interestingly, India has scripted a victory in as many as 16 games when they ended up losing the toss. Overall, under Virat Kohli, India has registered wins in 37 matches while the result didn’t go their way in 15 games.
