‘Never celebrate too early’ – Twitter reacts as Nurul Hasan’s error nearly costed Bangladesh two points
The T20 World Cup is already a blockbuster as the event has been able to entertain fans despite losing several matches due to rain. Once again, fans got to witness a last-over thriller when Bangladesh and Zimbabwe locked horns in a group league game on Sunday (October 30).
However, it was Nurual Hasan’s misjudgment behind the stumps that caught the attention of the fans. The incident happened on the last ball of the second innings, when Zimbabwe needed 5 off to win the contest. Mosaddek Hossain, who bowled the last over, was able to deceive on-strike batter Blessing Muzarabani and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan dislocated the stumps to dismiss him.
Following that, Bangladesh started to celebrate and walked off the field after shaking hands as they thought they had won the clash. However, moments later a big screen replay showed that Nurul Hasan collected the ball in front of stumps, meaning it was a no-ball. Hence, the players were called back to play for the final delivery, which would also decide the winner of the game.
Fortunately, Hossain was able to beat Mazarabani for a dot ball again and the Tigers won the game by 3 points to collect valuable two points. With this win, they are sitting at second position in the points table. This entire incident set Twitter ablaze as Bangladesh nearly escaped a humiliating defeat.
Speaking of the game, Bangladesh had a rusty start to the innings as they lost opener Soumya Sarkar in the second over. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was batting well at one end, didn’t find enough support from the other end. They kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.
Bangladesh posted a moderate total of 150 at the end of their 20 overs, thanks to a 71 off 55 deliveries from Shanto. Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava picked up two wickets each for Zimbabwe. In reply, Zimbabwe also had a terrible kick-off to their innings, losing their top order at an early stage.
Sean Williams showed great resistance to take the game deep, only to get run out and eventually lose the battle by 3 runs. Taskin Ahmed was the standout performer as he picked up 3 wickets. Mosaddek Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman got two wickets each under their column.
