It is a known fact that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli is one of the highest-paid sports athletes in the world and also the only cricketer to get featured in the Forbes list of the world’s highest-paid athletes in 2020. But you will be surprised to know that he is not at the topping the list of highest paid cricket captains

It is to be noted that Kohli is under Grade A+ contract with the BCCI to play all three formats for team India in accordance to which the Indian captain receives an annual salary of 7 crores. But Kohli is still not the highest-paid captain in world cricket.

It is the England Test format skipper Joe Root who receives an annual salary of GBP 7,00,000 annually (Rs. 7.22 crore approx) from the ECB. In addition to this, Jofra Archer who is the premium fast bowler of England is said to receive an higher salary than Virat Kohli in playing for his National side.

But BCCI contract is just a part of Kohli’s annual turnover as the cricketer receives an annual salary of 17 crores from the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise by representing them in the Indian Premier League which takes place every year. Major part of his income is sourced from his endorsements for brands like Puma, Audi, MRF, Colgate-Palmolive, Tissot. He presently holds 17 companies and a charity foundation, ‘Virat Kohli Foundation’.

In the year of 2020, Virat Kohli made an achievement of being the only cricketer to get himself named in the Forbes list of world’s highest paid athletes and stood 66th in the list. Virat Kohli’s net worth is estimated to be 688 crores with last update on May,2021. Presently the cricketer was seen raising a fund of 16 crores along with his wife, Anushka Sharma who is an actor cum producer for a child named, Ayaansh Gupta suffering from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

With respect to other International captains, Tim Paine is paid an annual salary of 5 crores by Cricket Australia. Following this the Pakistan cricket board which pays 62 lakhs annually while the Sri Lankan board pays Rs. 51 lakh.
