The stage is all set for the second Ashes Test after Australia’s nine-wicket win in the first game at The Gabba, Brisbane. Meanwhile, players of both sides are sweating hard in the net sessions, however, the visitors were hit with a minor scare when all-rounder Ben Stokes smashed skipper Joe Root on the head with a lethal bouncer.

The incident took place on December 14 (two days ahead of the match) when the Englishman bowled a well-directed short delivery at Root. The 30-year-old got no time to respond owing to the fiery speed of the ball. But the latter wasn’t affected much as he seemed to be alright with his subsequent actions

The English skipper has confirmed the availability of Ben Stokes in the second match against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. Earlier, the New Zealand-born picked a knee injury in the previous game where he had a mediocre outing with the bat as he got out for low scores of 5 and 14 respectively.

“He obviously had a bit of a jar in his knee in the last game,” said Root ahead of the training session. “Hopefully it’s something he’s shaken off now, and he can get back to full intensity and all options are on the table. We will have to manage that and see where we are at.”

Talking about the last clash, the ‘Three Lions’ were dismissed for below-par totals of 147 and 297 in both innings respectively. The home team posted a massive total of 425 runs in their first innings which left just 20 runs to be chased by them on the fourth day.
