After a good chase, West Indies batters were sent back to the pavilion by the Indian bowlers. But the most incredible scene was the run-out by Deepti Sharma as ICC’s social media handle shared the video, which took the internet by storm.

During West Indies’ 36th over, Shakera Selmon, who was batting, sent the ball to the fine-leg. At the non-striker’s end was Chedean Nation, who was running slowly. All-rounder Deepti Sharma, with her presence of mind and with the help of Meghna Singh, saw Smith napping when she was running the second run, and threw the ball towards the wickets and got her run out. The netizens hailed Deepti Sharma over this run-out.

“I think we both contributed to the score to get over 300, both deserve it”- Smriti Mandhana

"They have enough budget to do that" - Smriti Mandhana on sharing Player of the Match trophy with Harmanpreet Kaur

With help of Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet’s centuries, Indian reached a mammoth score of 317 in 50 overs. Chasing the target West Indies fell short of 155 runs as they were bundled out for 162 runs. India brushed aside West Indies, winning their second game as well as boosting their net run rate after the loss at the hands of host team New Zealand. India will play their next match against England on March 16 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

During the post-match presentation, Smriti Mandhana (123) shared the Player of the Match trophy with Harmanpreet Kaur who also scored 109 and explained the reasons behind it.

“Well I think, scoring a century and not being the player of the match is not something that anybody wants. I think we both contributed to the score to get it over 300 and it’s good to share the trophy, both deserve it. I think as a batter, we prefer both (setting up a target and chasing), toss is not going to go your way and you won’t get what you want.” Said Mandhana.

Our strengths are really different, Kaur is very good with the spin and I like pace on the ball, we know that and when the spinner was coming on to bowl, I used to give the strike back to Harman and she did the same when there was a pacer coming on. I’m sure ICC will be giving another trophy and they have enough budget to do that (has a huge smile on her face).”
