England’s sloppy fielding continued on Day 2 of the fourth Test match in the ongoing series against India. This time the man in question was Rory Burns who dropped India opener Rohit Sharma’s catch while fielding at the slips in the second innings.
The incident took place off a delivery bowled by veteran pacer James Anderson when Sharma was batting at a score of 6*. Rohit managed to get an outside edge on the third delivery of the third over while the ball carried straight to Burn at the third slip position. India trail by 56 runs at the end of Day 2
The visiting side’s openers, Sharma (20*) and KL Rahul (22*) batted well in the last one hour of play on the second day of the Oval Test match. The duo returned to the dressing room without getting out to the English bowling attack.
Earlier, England bundled out for a total of 290 runs in their first innings, owing to brilliant half-centuries from Ollie Pope (81) and Chris Woakes (50). Despite claiming the top five wickets for just 62 runs, Indian bowlers conceded quick runs from the opposition’s lower-order batsmen.
India skipper Virat Kohli went with five bowling options and all of them ticked the wickets column. Umesh Yadav, who was playing his maiden game of the series, got three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two English scalps each.
