Watch: Marnus Labuschagne duck out after needless run-out; fans troll on Twitter

In Karachi’s ongoing second Test between Pakistan and Australia, Marnus Labuschagne has collected a nine-ball duck. His early exit is a huge advantage for the Pakistani team after he was run out in the first innings. Noteworthy is that Labuschagne is the top-ranked Test batter currently and scored 90 runs in the preceding game in Rawalpindi. The track on Day 1 looked to be favourable for batters, so the 27-year-old would have wanted to post a good score.

The right-handed batter was unable to even open his account. He played a suicidal single on the last ball of the 21st over, resulting in Australia losing two wickets in three overs. It was a full-length delivery from the left-arm spinner and Labuschagne pushed the ball to mid-off.

Sajid Khan’s bull’s eye ended Labuschagne’s short stay and gave the Pakistan fielders a lot of joy. His failure also garnered much criticism on social media. After all, he could have made his bat talk on the Day 1 surface. Not to forget, he averages over 55 in Test cricket and the same speaks volumes of his prowess and consistency.

Earlier in the match, Australia’s captain Pat Cummins decided to bat first after the coin landed in his favour. The side got off to a brilliant start as openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja added 82 runs for the first wicket before the former fell prey to Faheem Ashraf for 36. Khawaja, however, continued his impressive run in whites and slammed a brilliant half-century.

The three-match series, which is underway, holds great significance, as it marks Australia’s first assignment on Pakistani soil since 1998. The first match in Rawalpindi ended in a dull draw as only 14 wickets fall across five days. As ICC rated the track below average, the Karachi track is expected to provide more assistance to the bowlers.
