Maharashtra opener Ruturaj Gaikwad took the cricketing world by storm on Monday (November 28) as he smashed seven sixes in an over. In the quarter-final match against Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored an unbeaten 220 off just 159 balls, including a record-making over.

In the penultimate over, Gaikwad took the bowler to cleaners. Interestingly, the fifth delivery of the over turned out to be a no-ball and it was sent to the stands as well. With a six on the last ball of the over, he did the unthinkable and scripted multiple records on the day. The clip has since gone viral on the internet.

The right-handed batter became the first cricketer to smash seven sixes in a List A cricket match. He also registered the highest individual score for Maharashtra. Apart from that, the 43-run over became the most expensive over ever bowled in a List A cricket match.

Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s double-century helped his side set a mammoth 331 target for Uttar Pradesh. However, the opponents failed to even come close to the target. Apart from opener Aryan Juyal, who scored 159 runs off 143 deliveries, all the other batters failed to leave an impact.

For Maharashtra, Ruturaj’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) counterpart all-rounder Rajvardhan Hangargekar took a fifer to dismantle Uttar Pradesh’s batting unit. Satyajeet Bachhav and Shamshuzama Kazi also picked up two wickets each in the match. Unsurprisingly, Gaikwad was adjudged the player of the match.
