Who can lead the Ahmedabad team in IPL 2022?

IPL is undoubtedly the biggest brand when it comes to cricket and much to the delight of fans who absolutely adore the league, two more teams have been added to the league. Bids were invited by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for the Ahmedabad and Lucknow-based franchises.

After a plethora of big names came up with monumental bids, it was finally decided that the Ahmedabad franchise will go to CVC Capital who won the bid for Ahmedabad for Rs 5,200 crore whereas the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group bagged the Lucknow franchise at Rs 7,000 Crore.

It would be interesting to see which players will move into which particular franchise in the mega auction. However, there are a few players who are the front-runners to become the skipper of the newly added franchises. Especially for the Ahmedabad-based franchise, we have a few players in mind who might be considered to lead the side.

Suresh Raina: Although Raina has been a stalwart for the Chennai Super Kings, he hasn’t been in the best of forms with the bat. So much so that he was dropped from the playing 11 in the final few games. Needless to say, CSK is extremely unlikely to retain him in the squad and this will present the Ahmedabad franchise a chance to rope the Southpaw in as his experience will greatly help the younger players in the team.

David Warner: Many fans opined that Warner was not treated respectfully by the Sunrisers. He had a horrible season with the bat but now should not forget that he still is one of the most consistent T20 batsmen in the world. Warner also hinted on several occasions that he might not play for the ‘Orange Army’ next season and if he is released, the Ahmedabad franchise will surely go after him.

Krunal Pandya: Krunal also had a forgettable IPL season this time around for the Mumbai Indians. The Ahmedabad franchise will go after the local boy as his experience with Mumbai Indians will also help the other players who will be included in the team. Born in Ahmedabad, Krunal has been active in Gujarat’s cricketing circuit for a long time.

Axar Patel: Another local boy, Axar has been simply magnificent for the Delhi Capitals. However, with stars like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Anrich Nortje, Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, and others, it is unlikely that he will be retained. His all-round ability makes him a top pick in the auction and being someone who knows Gujarat’s cricketing circuit quite well, it won’t be a surprise if he is considered for the skipper’s position.

Kieron Pollard: The Caribbean cricketer is a name to reckon with in the world of T20 cricket. Although Mumbai would love to retain him, with other Indian stars in the side, Pollard might actually find himself in the auction pool and without a doubt, the new franchises will go after him. Pollard has captained T20 sides across the globe and still has the batting ability to single-handedly win games.
