Tanveer Sangha had just returned after participating in The Hundred, representing Birmingham Phoenix. He then got a call from the Australian Cricket Team’s management, telling him he needs to travel to South Africa. Sangha was called after Adam Zampa had fallen sick. He traveled to South Africa and in less than 24 hours, he made his debut. 

Sangha was in a gym, recovering from a long trip from the United Kingdom. A couple of hours before the match, he was informed by Marsh in the gym that he would be making his international debut that night.

Australia scored a mammoth 226 off their 20 overs thanks to Mitchell Marsh’s 92 and Tim David’s 64. South Africa came in to bat but managed to score 115, losing the 1st T20I by 111 runs. 

Sangha had picked up 4 wickets in first international match. He took the wicket of Aiden Markram in his first over. In his 2nd over, he got debutant Dewald Brevis and sent Tristan Stubbs back with a golden duck, finding himself on a hattrick in his first over. On his hat trick ball, Marco Jansen played with ease, but Sangha got Stubb’s wicket on his 4th over. Sangha finished the game with figures of 4/31.

Who is Taveer Sanhga?

Tanveer Sangha is a 21 year old leg spinner born in Sydney. His father, Joga Sangha, is from India, from the city of Jamshedpur. Joga Sangha had traveled to Sydney for his education, but settled down in the city.

Sangha made his debut in 2020 for New South Wales in Australia’s domestic T20 League. He then made his Big Bash League debut for Sydney Thunder in the same season. He represented Australia in the 2020 U-19 World Cup. He made his first class debut in October 2021 and played his first List A match for NSW a couple of days later. 

Tanveer was drafted in by Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred in 2022 and 2023, Although he only played 4 matches, he has picked up wickets in the 74 balls he has delivered. 

In the 32 T20s he has played, he has picked up 46 wickets at an average of 16.84. He is regarded as one of the best young talents to come out of Australia and will surely play more consistently for Australia in the future.
