Cristiano Ronaldo should win a major silverware to claim the Ballon d'Or ahead of Lionel Messi
Football journalist Adam White voices out his opinion about the chances of Cristiano Ronaldo winning the Ballon d’Or ahead of Lionel Messi. White stated that if Ronaldo is to be considered for the Ballon d’Or this season, he must inspire Manchester United to the Premier League or Champions League title.
Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United and Messi’s move to Paris Saint Germain from Barcelona were the biggest news in footballing history this summer. They both are in one of the best sides of Premier League and Ligue 1 respectively and are the top contenders to lift silverware.
In a conversation with Give Me Sport, Adam White hailed Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski as the most deserving candidate for Ballon d’Or. So far this season, the Polish striker has 13 goals to his name in just 10 games with seven coming in Bundesliga, four in Champions League, and two in the DFL Super Cup. His performances for Bayern have been brilliant and is surely a top favorite for the award.
“I think, first of all, Robert Lewandowski deserves a Ballon d’Or at some point and probably would have won it last year if they’d held one,” said Adam White.
White further added that if he were to pick one from Ronaldo or Messi, then the former should at least one of Premier League or Champions League in order to edge out Messi. Also, Ronaldo would have to become the best from his team just as he was with his former club Real Madrid.
“But from Ronaldo and Messi, I think Ronaldo would need to win either the Premier League or the Champions League to have a chance and he would need to be the main man, as he was at Real Madrid,” added White.
