Irish interim manager John O’Shea tipped his former Manchester United teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo to take up the role of Portugal national team manager, post retirement. His comments came ahead of Ireland’s friendly match against the 2016 European champions.

There have been growing speculations about the Portuguese star hanging his boots for the national team. But the 39-year old forward has shown no signs of decline. Despite his age, Ronaldo continues to break records, becoming the top goalscorer for the 2023-24 season. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner will take part in his 13th major international tournament in Germany.

Ex-Manchester United and Irish star John O’Shea, who shared some time at Old Trafford, alongside Ronaldo, presumed that the Al-Nassr star might continue with the national team even after retirement, preferably as their coach. Highlighting Ronaldo’s commitment and professionalism, O’Shea expressed belief in Ronaldo’s ability to lead Portugal in future tournaments. His experience in handling pressure could benefit Portugal.
