CSK’s Anshul Kamboj Scripts Unwanted IPL Record to His Name After Poor Outing Against LSG
Anshul Kamboj's 63 runs conceded are the second-worst bowling figures by a CSK player, trailing only Khaleel Ahmed's 0/65 against RCB in 2025.

- Anshul Kamboj recorded the worst economy rate in IPL history for a bowler with a minimum of two overs, conceding 63 runs in just 2.3 overs.
- He became the first bowler to be hit for four consecutive sixes in an over twice during the same IPL match.
- CSK's injury woes continue as they sign Kuldip Yadav as a replacement for Khaleel Ahmed amid a challenging season.
While he is still Chennai Super Kings’ highest wicket-taker in IPL 2026, Anshul Kamboj, however, had a terrible outing against Lucknow Super Giants. The CSK pacer was disheartened after giving away 63 runs in his spell, which earned him a place in the IPL record books.
LSG secured a dominant seven-wicket win over CSK at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium. Batting first, the visitors put up a decent 187/5 on the board, thanks to Kartik Sharma’s 71 off 42 and Shivam Dube’s late 32* off 16.
Chasing 188 on a pitch that favored pacers, Mitchell Marsh was undeterred, scoring 90 off just 38 balls. Contributions also came from Josh Inglis (36 off 32) and Nicholas Pooran (32 off 17), enabling LSG to complete the chase in 16.4 overs.
Authoritative win for LSG leaves CSK under pressure 👀

CSK’s bowling unit, already weakened by Jamie Overton‘s injury-related absence, reached its lowest point, with Kamboj performing the poorest of the group. Despite being one of the top wicket-takers in IPL 2026, he had a terrible night at the Ekana. He was taken to the cleaners, first by Mitchell Marsh in the 5th over, and later by Nicholas Pooran in the 17th over, as he returned with figures of 0/63 in just the 2.4 overs that he bowled.
In his second over, where he conceded 28 runs, Marsh hit him for four consecutive sixes. Pooran was equally aggressive, hitting four consecutive sixes in Kamboj’s third over, to take LSG over the line. It made the 25-year-old the first bowler in IPL history to be hit for four successive sixes in an over twice during the same game. Additionally, Kamboj’s unfinished three-over spell resulted in the worst economy rate (23.62) recorded among bowlers who have completed a minimum two-over spell in an IPL match.

He continued to set unwanted records, becoming only the second bowler to concede 60+ runs in a match while bowling three or fewer overs. The Haryana-born pacer was hit for eight sixes during his brief spell, which is now the most conceded by a bowler in an innings. He shares this spot with Yash Dayal (0/69), who was also hit for the same number of maximums while playing for GT, against KKR in IPL 2023.

The numbers against the young pacer appear devastating. Despite Kamboj being consistently hit for runs, both he and CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad persisted with the same tactic of bowling hard-length deliveries rather than attempting variations.
CSK ropes in Kuldip Yadav as injury replacement for Khaleel Ahmed amid crucial play-off battle
IPL 2026 has been far from perfect for CSK, particularly regarding injury management. Five players have suffered season-ending injuries, and compounding these issues, former captain MS Dhoni has missed all of the games in the tournament so far due to injury.

Australian pacer Nathan Ellis was the first to be ruled out and was quickly replaced by Spencer Johnson. Ayush Mhatre, captain of India’s U-19 World Cup-winning team, who had already scored 201 runs in six games, was the next player ruled out, replaced by pacer Akash Madhwal. Ramakrishna Ghosh suffered a fractured foot, while Jamie Overton was sidelined with a thigh injury, forcing him to return to the UK.
Ace pacer Khaleel Ahmed was also ruled out after the match against KKR, due to a Grade-2 quadriceps injury. While it seemed that the franchise might not sign a replacement for the 28-year-old, they have now roped in left-armer Kuldip Yadav for INR 30 lakhs. Yadav had previously played for Rajasthan Royals, where he secured two wickets with an economy of 9.33, marking his debut exposure to T20 cricket.

Meanwhile, CSK have also signed Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha as Ghosh’s replacement, and South African Dian Forrester as Overton’s replacement, this week. After the loss to LSG, Chennai’s chances of making the play-offs are now uncertain.
