IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings sign Jason Behrendorff as Josh Hazlewood’s replacement
Jason Behrendorff
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed Aussie quick Jason Behrendorff as the replacement for Josh Hazlewood who pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2021 in order to concentrate on the Sheffield Shield and the upcoming test season for Australia. He will now be replaced by fellow Aussie quick Behrendorff who has already featured in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians in 2019.
CSK meanwhile, begin their campaign tomorrow against the Delhi Capitals. According to various reports, the signing of a replacement for Hazlewood could not be completed quickly due to bowlers like Reece Topley and Billy Stanlake refusing to travel to India amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. CSK had earlier hinted in a social media post at the replacement being an Aussie (according to CSK fans) and the same has been proved right now, whether intentionally or otherwise..
Jason Behrendorff replaces fellow Aussie Josh Hazlewood
Jason Behrendorff will replace his fellow Aussie Josh Hazlewood this season and the same has been confirmed by CSK’s official Twitter handle. They wrote, “Jason is all of us right now! J Behrendorff joins the super lion up for this #Summerof2021 !”
It is noteworthy that Behrendorff has already taken part in the IPL, playing for Mumbai Indians in the 2019 season where he featured in five matches and picked up five wickets. The left-arm quick has also featured in 11 ODIs and 7 T20Is for Australia, picking up 16 and 7 wickets respectively.
Chennai Super Kings now have a semblance of variety and balance to their bowling attack with the acquisition of Behrendorff as he is a left-arm quick – an area where CSK lacks. The Aussie will now look to join up with the squad soon and complete all protocols before getting ready for match action.
