Curtis Blaydes secures the victory after a Tom Aspinall sufferes a freak injury in disappointing end to UFC’s return to London
Aspinall'[s und=beaten UFC run came to end via an injury
Curtis Blaydes will have the immense challenge of defeating the hometown hero, Tom Aspinall in the O2 Arena tonight. A high-stakes fight, with heavy implications on the future of the Heavyweight division, a victory for either can very well propel them to a direct title shot.
Blaydes is coming off an electric finish over Kyle Daukaus at UFC Columbus. He is currently 6-1 in his last 7 with his only losses being at the heavy hands of men named Francis Ngannou or Derrick Lewis. With a #4 right next to his name, Curtis isn’t far from a title shot and he has stated many times in the past that he wishes to avenge his two losses to the current champion.
Aspinall is the most promising prospect to come out of the new wave of English fighters, with an incredible career record of 12-2 with all of his victories coming off a finish. Despite having only 5 fights in the UFC, his dominant showing in those 5 outings has rightfully put him as the #6 ranked fighter at heavyweight. Blaydes will undoubtedly be the most versatile fighter that Aspinal has faced with respected wrestling and powerful ground and pound.
If Aspinall manages to put away Curtis like he has everyone else, there won’t be many left objecting if he were handed title shot next.
