- Rapper DaBaby made a light-hearted comment about the crash during a game, which Ball took in stride.
- Fans had mixed reactions to DaBaby's remarks, with some finding them insensitive despite Ball's good humor.
Former number three pick LaMelo Ball was involved in a car accident on Wednesday. Ball’s custom-made Hummer was in a collision with an oncoming vehicle in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Hummer suffered significant front-end damage in the crash, including the loss of one of its 24×12 DW Forged one-off designed wheels.
It was a blessing when LaMelo Ball made it out of the accident unscathed and was even available for the Charlotte Hornets’ first game against the Houston Rockets after the All-Star weekend. Since the turn of the new year, the Hornets have been on a tear, winning 15 of their last 22 games before the All-Star break as Ball and his crew turned up the heat with their collective effort.
The Hornets are coming off a close loss to the Rockets on the first night of a back-to-back. On Friday night, they took on the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Spectrum Center. It was a narrow defeat once again as the Hornets were beaten 118-113 by the Cavs. Hornets duo Moussa Diabate and Miles Bridges continued to serve their suspensions after their actions against the Detroit Pistons.
Consecutive close losses for the Hornets see their record drop to 26-31 as they find themselves in the play-in spots and are just 0.5 games ahead of the 11th-place Milwaukee Bucks. Meanwhile, the win extended the Cavs’ winning streak to seven games and climbed to third place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 36-21 record.
During the game, American rapper DaBaby, who is often seen attending NBA games, was seen courtside on Friday night. The artist was seen making a subtle on-court jab referencing the crash.
N***** crash cars every day, we ain’t worried about none of that!

The comment appeared to downplay the seriousness of the incident, but Ball was seen laughing it off. DaBaby is a supporter of the Hornets and shares a friendly relationship with the point guard, hence, Ball was not too bothered by the rapper’s comments.

Grant Williams on LaMelo Ball’s car accident
LaMelo Ball has struggled offensively in their two losses after the All-Star break. After an 11-point performance on Thursday, Ball recorded just 18 points to go along with two rebounds and six assists, making just 23.5% of his shots from the field. However, it is still a miracle to see Ball on the court.
Ball’s teammate Grant Williams spoke about Ball’s car accident.

I don’t know all the details of the situation, so it’s hard for me to speak on it. But I’m just thankful that both he and the other party are healthy and safe.

The Hornets point guard is currently averaging 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and is shooting at below 40% from the field in 46 appearances this season. It is his lowest points per game since his rookie year. If the Hornets are to make it to the playoffs this year, they will need Ball to find his offensive groove very soon.
