The Dallas Cowboys had a frustrating end to their 2023–24 campaign run. Despite landing at the top of the NFC East, it failed to progress past the Wild Card Round in the playoffs after a blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers. 

Following the loss, owner Jerry Jones assured fans that the team would go all-in this offseason to ensure they came back with a better roster capable of making the Super Bowl next season.

Quarterback Dak Prescott was asked about his team’s performance in the off-season so far with them having made minimal moves.

I don't want to say I'm puzzled. I'm focused on the guys that we have and we got a lot of great guys, a lot of good that's returning in that locker room. I obviously have faith in those guys, we've always done well in the draft, and hopefully that will make a big impact... I don't control that side of making those moves so not going to put too much fault...to it I guess in what we're doing and how we're getting that done.

Despite Jerry Jones‘ claims of being all-in, the Dallas Cowboys have signed Eric Kendricks and Royce Freeman to one-year deals. Apart from that, the team has brought back most of its existing players. 

However, they lost key players Leighton Vander Esch to retirement, Michael Gallup, and Tony Pollard, who signed with the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys are not looking as good as they did last season.

Prescott’s statement made it evident that he has no say in the moves with respect to roster changes, and rather than wondering why his team is not attempting to orchestrate key trades for talented players available, he is focused on ensuring how he can improve with the existing players on the roster.

The team will be reliant on the NFL Draft 2024 to fill up key roster spots, such as running back. The Dallas Cowboys have historically fared well in the draft, but it has been a long time since they made a blockbuster trade for a Pro Bowler during the offseason. The team continues to live by its philosophy of drafting and grooming talent.

Prescott has faith in this approach, and his goal is to ensure he holds himself accountable and performs as well as he can with the weapons he has. 

The Cowboys’ only major change is the team’s new defensive coordinator, Mike Zimmer; apart from that, the team’s roster and coaching staff remain the same. It will be interesting to see how the Cowboys do in the upcoming draft.
