The Dallas Cowboys’ challenges seemed to have started early on this year. The team’s star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was a notable absence from the team’s organized team activities and mandatory minicamp. He awaits a contract extension from the franchise, as he is headed into the final year of his rookie contract.

Recently, Justin Jefferson became the highest-paid wideout after the Vikings offered him a $140 million extension for four years with $110 million of it guaranteed. This deal changed the WR market and naturally, all eyes are now on the negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb to see how this will impact that.

The team’s quarterback Dak Prescott dialed Lamb as soon as he got wind of the Jefferson-Vikings deal.

I think I was in here doing physicals and yeah I called him. Obviously, CeeDee's handling business. Nobody's more in his corner than I am, understanding that's his chess move, and he's got to do that. So I know him, I know he's been working. As I said, I've thrown with him. He's just fine.

The quarterback also revealed that he is rooting for his best wideout and he reassured fans that his negotiations are in no way going to impact the chemistry between the two.

Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb are both on the block for a contract extension

Both, the quarterback and the receiver are up on the extension block. Prescott enters the fifth-year option on his four-year $160 million contract and will hit free agency post-next season if the Cowboys fail to extend him. This season, however, the team’s priority has to be CeeDee Lamb.

He had a remarkable year this season with 135 receptions, 1,749 yards, and 12 touchdowns. He is right up there with Justin Jefferson in terms of numbers. There is some difference between the two but it is not ridiculous to think that Lamb is looking for a contract similar to that of his peer. The problem with his expectations is that the Cowboys are not equipped to be able to offer a deal as big.

The reason is that the team has to offer Micah Parsons a massive extension because he is a hot commodity amongst defensive players in the NFL and then there is the elephant in the room, Dak Prescott. Ultimately, Dallas is likely to move on from one player next season and it is most definitely going to be Prescott. That remains contingent on how the team fares this season.
