The 2024 NASCAR Cup season marked end a special run for Corey LaJoie, after he lost his Spire Motorsports seat to Justin Haley. He has been a significant factor in the team’s growth since the 2021 season, but his drop in performance and rookie Carson Hocevar taking over the leadership role with his impressive run, forced the team to make the tough decision.

Corey LaJoie was replaced by Justin Haley ahead of the Kansas playoff race in a swap deal with Rick Ware Racing. Initially many expected RWR are to give the veteran at least a one-year contract extension. But they decide to replace him with Cody Ware, son of team owner Rick Ware, as he is set for Cup return.

With limited Cup opportunities available, some believed that LaJoie would move to the Truck or Xfinity series. But he decided against it and is set to run a part-time schedule for RWR in 2025. He backed his decision by making a bold claim that he doesn’t want to race “when there’s 12 people in the grandstands” and wants to still be part of main event on Sunday. This comment didn’t sit well with many including Dale Sr.’s granddaughter Karsyn Elledge.

I think he’s a whiny b*tch. That’s what I think.

Karsyn Elledge said via Door Bumper clear podcast.

She was discussing the Corey LaJoie in the latest episode of DBC, with the 2023 Cup Champion Ryan Blaney as the guest. The co-hosts including Bubba Wallace’s spotter Freddie Craft burst into a wild laugher after hearing the comments from the Earnhardt family member.

Ryan Blaney defends Corey LaJoie amidst the criticism

Though not a fan of the comments, former champion Ryan Blaney came in the defense of Corey LaJoie. He pointed out that LaJoie was intending to say he has worked so hard to get to the Cup series and doesn’t want to go back down to restart again, but the words he used to express this feeling wasn’t the right one.

It came off wrong, you know, and I think Corey’s worked really hard to get to the cup level and, you know, he’s done a great job in getting himself there and, right, I think in his mind, like, I’ve worked so hard to get here, I want to stay here, you know, I don’t want to have to restart.

The Team Penske racing driver have a strong argument in favor of LaJoie, but the latter considering his experience in the media over the years should have been careful with his words. Though the fans are right to criticize LaJoie for those comments, they should also admit the fact that he is right regarding the poor attendance and lack of limelight in the lower divisions.
