Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors to join the Dallas Mavericks this off-season. It didn’t take long for fans and analysts to give their take on the big off-season move. Polarising sports media figure Skip Bayless shared his thoughts. It is safe to say that Bayless has pretty lofty expectations about the Mavericks adding a new star to their roster.

Bayless claimed Klay Thompson would have helped the Dallas Mavericks in defeating the Boston Celtics in the NBA finals. The Mavericks lost the final in five games and didn’t threaten the stacked Celtics at all. As such, Bayless mentioned that Thompson remains a great upgrade over guard Tim Hardaway Jr., who didn’t make much of an impact.

Bayless compared Thompson’s playing style and felt it would have been a great fit for the Mavericks in the finals. Thompson is a 39.8-percent 3-point shooter, which remains better than Hardaway. His “Catch and Shoot” remains a masterpiece. Some players need the ball to have an effect. Meanwhile, Thompson has proved to be effective even without the ball.

There is no clear way to assess if Thompson would really have helped the Mavericks win against the Celtics. Nevertheless, Thompson’s presence would have most certainly improved Dallas’s chances. The addition of the four-time champion will surely benefit the Mavericks. As such, the team can potentially make another final appearance next season.

Skip Bayless says he has lost respect for Luka Doncic after the finals loss

The Dallas Mavericks are facing a lot of criticism after their 4-1 embarrassing loss to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA finals. Many experts have started to doubt Luka Doncic’s credibility. Skip Bayless remains one of them as he unleashed a scathing remark on the Slovenian superstar.

One must note that the Undisputed host has frequently criticized Doncic in the past. However, Bayless had been a fan of Luka Doncic in the previous season, with his great scoring abilities and commitment to putting the team on his shoulders when needed. Even after the Mavericks were down 0-3, he supported them. During Undisputed on FS1, Bayless stated that he had lost respect for Doncic and went off on him.

Doncic was doing great in the playoffs against both the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, he couldn’t maintain the same in the finals, and his performance declined against the Celtics. This included poor defensive plays and fouling out in Game 3. As such, Bayless lost respect for the Slovenian star.
