Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is completely unbothered about quarterback Jared Goff’s five interceptions amid a win against the Houston Texans last week. The Lions became the first team to win a game despite throwing five interceptions since the Atlanta Falcons in 2012.

Dan Campbell, who assumed the coaching position in 2021, led the Lions to their first division title since 1993 last year. The magical run included 12 wins, equaling the 1991 franchise record for most wins in a season. The rabbit’s foot from last year has bled into the new season as the Lions soared to 8-1 in Week 10.

The win against the Houston side established the Lions’ supremacy as they tore into the Texans’ defense with unanswered points to stage one of the best comebacks this season. Although, they registered a win, a near-perfect Goff broke character to throw five interceptions.

Despite the same, Dan Campbell is not worried about Goff’s imperfections on Sunday. The fourth-year coach surprisingly admitted that Goff played a good game during his Tuesday appearance on 97.1 The Ticket.

None. Everybody’s going to think we’re crazy, you’re going to think I’m crazy. I’m telling you, he didn’t play a bad game. He played a pretty good game.

Dan Campbell said

The fact of whether the statement would have been the polar opposite if they failed to win would be unknown. With a weak opponent and a better-than-decent record, the Lions and Campbell could write the interceptions off as a glitch in the matrix. Statistically, the Lions have demonstrated consistent offensive and defensive stability throughout the season, and this game appears as an outlier.

Lions’ Jared Goff acknowledged he’s tougher than five interceptions

Amongst the five interceptions, three of them lie in a grey area. There was one which resulted from a tipped pass and a hail mary. One of the interceptions could be rerouted as a fumble instead of an interception. All said and done, Goff had accumulated more interceptions in this single game (5) than he had over the entire season leading up to it (4).

However, Jared Goff was similarly not at all bothered by the offensive struggle in the last game. The quarterback admitted that he felt he played a good game.

I honestly didn’t feel like I was playing all that bad and I was seeing things well. I was throwing it well. Had some unfortunate things (happen) there early, but I’ve been through a whole lot worse than that. I’ve been to the bottom mentally. I’ve been to the bottom, and some unlucky plays (aren’t) going to throw me off my game.

Jared Goff told the reporters

He also spoke of the Lions’ toughness, noting that they are ready to face any challenges. Earlier this season, there were doubts that the Lions could play the same in an outdoor environment. They dismissed the notions with a dominating win over the Green Bay Packers amid adverse conditions.
