Detroit Lions set Ford Field ablaze with a massive MNF win over the Seattle Seahawks. Downtown Detroit saw two NFC potential Champions tugging it out, with home heroes, the Lions, handing the Seahawks their first loss of the 2024 season.
With a hundred home heroes on the stands for festivities and Calvin Johnson‘s induction into the NFL Hall of Fame, the Lions overcame the Seahawks threat for the first time since 2012. In the regular season, the Seahawks had the upper hand for the last six consecutive games. Detroit Lions are now 3-1 in the NFC North with high odds for the Super Bowl.
It was a quarterback’s duel out there in the domed stadium. Geno Smith packed some major heat with 38-of-56 for 395 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Jared Goff, the Lions starter, took it one step ahead with a perfect outing. He knitted a perfect pass completion, 18-of-18, for 292 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yard flyer to Jameson Williams.
Goff tumbled many NFL record books in the game. The 29-year-old Californian now leads the NFL in most passes without an incompletion as per OptaStats. ESPN Broadcast analyzed that he also managed to nag the title of the first NFL player with no incompletions while passing for 200+ yards.
Jared Goff's final statline in a win over Seattle:
— Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) October 1, 2024
– 18/18
– 292 passing yards
– 2 TDs
– 0 INTs
– 155.8 passer rating (somehow that's not perfect)
– 1 receiving TD pic.twitter.com/3DWxXbJj1G
Goff was 2.5 shy of a perfect passer rating of 158.2, but that’s no small task. The passer rating is calculated utilizing the completion percentage, yard per attempt, TD per attempt, and interception per attempt.
According to Pro Football Reference’s Passer Rating Calculator, Goff could have reached 158.2 with the above metrics while keeping the same stats in other areas. Nonetheless, he had an outing for the ages which included his first receiving touchdown as well.
Fans in awe of the Downtown Riot by Jared Goff with his mind-blowing stats
Jared Goff displayed a different version of himself. He was a demure beast, passing for more than 200 yards, slinging his arm so perfectly and mindfully into the correct hands. To be noted, the Seattle Seahawks had allowed the second-fewest passing yards per game before Monday’s action.
Goff made the performance more enriching by doubling the 132.3 yards per game Seattle had been allowing through the air. Considering the win is the Lions’ best performance output, the fans have likened his stats to the Madden NFL stats and termed his performance ‘elite’.
Madden stat line. Jesus.

I believe Goff nearly hit all the requirements for a perfect passer rating, missing just one.
— ChickaChickaJudgeJaime (@Judg3Jaim3) October 1, 2024
Had Goff thrown one more touchdown OR had two less attempts and completions, he would've achieved the minimum 11.875% of touchdown-scoring passes needed for a perfect passer rating.
Fans are completely oblivious after Jared Goff missed out on a perfect passer rating when he had no incompletions.
How in the world is that not perfect

This is why passer rating is a meaningless aggregate stat
— Joseph Momma (@mynameiskhanyo) October 1, 2024
How was it not a perfect passer rating? Because he didn't hit 300 yards? gtfoh.

Jared Goff has the only perfect game in NFL history.. this should also tell you passer rating is a joke of a stat

The Detroit Lions now can have a nice long week to themselves before they play the Dallas Cowboys on October 13.
The recently married Goff will have an off week to rejuvenate and refresh after the MNF performance. Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks face the New York Giants next week to take back the winning momentum.
