The Jacksonville Jaguars spent a significant amount in the off-season upon upgrading their roster, including signing Trevor Lawrence to a 5-year, $275 million deal. However, four games into the season, owner Shahid Khan has yet to see any results. The bad start has put head coach Doug Pederson into the limelight.
He was hired to develop a young Trevor Lawrence into the franchise quarterback and turn the fate of the Jaguars around. But he has accomplished neither. Doug Pederson was asked if he was worried about his job status after the team’s 24-20 loss to the Texans on Sunday, “My status? No. That’s kind of a weird question, but OK,” was his carefree response.
Doug Pederson is considered an offensive genius. His plays led the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl win in franchise history. It was one of the reasons that Shahid Khan hired him, to implement those strategies into the Jaguars franchise.
So far along this season, the Jaguars have struggled offensively. Two weeks into the season, they rank in the bottom 10 of NFL offenses.
Doug Pederson’s shedding responsibility over Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence’s performance
Doug Pederson was asked during his press conference if he would take over the play-calling from offensive coordinator Press Taylor. Except the head coach is confident that Taylor did a great job.
He further went on to say that coaches cannot be expected to go out there and play the game themselves. It seemed to be a veiled dig at quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
In reality, there is nobody but Pederson who can be blamed for the Jaguars’ struggles. The team has completed just 53.2% of its passes through four games and has won 1 out of its last 10 games.

The Jaguars are averaging 15 points per game and 295 yards per game. Their primary struggles arise in third-down situations. The team is dysfunctional and unprepared. The Jaguars’ schedule requires them to face the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and the New England Patriots.
It is high time they turn things around and make some immediate changes or else it will be Pederson’s job that will experience some changes.
