Micah Parsons had Philadelphia Eagles safety Darius Slay as a special guest on his podcast, discussing Slay’s teammate CJ Gardner-Johnson and his mirk with the mouth attitude. Although Parsons and Slay play for rival teams, they both shared the same opinion about Gardner-Johnson’s antics.

Johnson has made a name for himself for playing the bad guy routine, calling out teams or players before and after games. Following the Eagles’ win over the New Orleans Saints in week 3, Gardner-Johnson verbally attacked Saints quarterback Derek Carr and running back Alvin Kamara, calling them pretenders.

When Parsons talked about it on his podcast, Gardner-Johnson even took potshots at the Cowboys pass rusher, highlighting that he has won far more playoff games in his career. Parsons brought the subject up with Slay, who knows the Florida graduate up close and personal.

We all in the NFL, how one of us saying that one person, they don’t belong here. Even all pro, pro bowl players, we can still be humbled at any time. We gonna still gonna get beat, I am gonna still get locked up before a game or route. It’s just a game of football.

Micah Parsons said on The Edge podcast

Slay provided his point of view by saying that not many people trash talk like CJ Gardner-Johnson, but at the same time, he needs to back it up.

#8… He fulfills that need for us [trash-talking]. He got a lot of energy [and] his gonna go talk that trash but, you know, if you gonna talk then you gotta back it up at some point and if you don’t he know for sure that media is gonna catch it.

CJ Gardner-Johnson trash-talked himself into trouble in week 4 fixture against the Buccaneers

The win over the Saints gave the Eagles something to build upon. In week 4, Nick Sirianni’s men were scheduled to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Florida. The 26-year-old went off again by saying that he would lockdown every receiver while walking through the corridors of the Raymond James Stadium on Sunday.

Johnson crash-landed back to earth as the Buccaneers dropped 33 points on the Eagles’ defense. Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield routinely found Mike Evans, Trey Palmer, Chris Godwin, and Bucky Irving for touchdown runs. While Slay recorded 9 combined tackles, Gardner-Johnson only managed 2 all game.

According to Pro Football Focus, Gardner-Johnson sits 44th best in the league with 14 all-purpose tackles with 5 assists and has allowed 8 receptions from 11 targets. They graded Gardner-Johnson 50.6 after four games.
