The Detroit Lions welcomed the Seattle Seahawks at Ford Field this weekend. They knew all too well that a loss could stunt their goal of bypassing the Wild Card round. With the Seahawks breathing down their necks on every drive, QB Jared Goff had to ensure he kept it clean and did not turn the ball over.
But on one drive in the third quarter, the Lions decided to put the game away. For that, Goff turned to Jameson Williams.
The Detroit Lions snapped the ball at their 30-yard line. Then Goff and his running back motioned a play action to create some throwing room. He saw his star wide receiver break away from his defender and threw the ball in space.
Then on, Jameson Williams showed why his breakaway speed is a problem. He ran the length of the field to score the touchdown. Even high-stepped the final 20 yards, leaving Seahawks defenders in the dust.

That touchdown gave the Detroit Lions a bit more than a two-score lead. That gap helped them go on to win the game comfortably. Then the Seattle Seahawks struggled with the pressure and could not sufficiently close the gap. Now the Lions can look forward to some rest in their bye week before heading to Dallas to take on the Cowboys.
That Cowboys’ secondary might be daunting. But if anything, this play showed that Jared Goff has options. If any of his other stud receivers are covered heavily, he can depend upon Jameson Williams to streak out and get a big score.
Jared Goff’s perfect game leads Detroit Lions to big win
With both teams battling for supremacy in the NFC, the Lions were aware that the Seattle Seahawks’ defense would pounce on any waywardness. Jared Goff and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson knew the assignment well as they scripted perfect quarterback play. Goff threw a perfect 18 out of his 18 passes.
Finishing with 292 yards and two touchdowns, the $53 million quarterback threw only 1/3rd the number of attempts his counterpart Geno Smith threw. It goes to show that the Detroit Lions have figured out how to maximize their quarterback’s efficiency in games.
That efficiency will come in hand as they continue to fight to be at the top of the NFC. Their own NFC North is a tough division to crack. But if they manage to use Goff’s efficiency to create scoring chances, they should be in a good spot when January comes around.
