This season, the Houston Texans have positioned themselves better compared to the last one. But in that past season, CJ Stroud was the talk of the football world with his unreal rookie campaign. This season, however, it has not been as electric and, to make matters worse, lost to the Tennessee Titans in embarrassing fashion in week 12.
In the second half, the Tennessee Titans defense stopped Stroud from scoring a touchdown. They forced the home team to two field goal situations where they missed one. However, a defensive touchdown from the Texans and a Will Levis bomb meant the Titans were up by 3.
With the Texans pinned to their own eight-yard line, the Titans sacked the QB, forcing him to take the next snap from the Houston Texans‘ end zone. They had time, but facing a 3rd and 17 meant the second-year quarterback had to find one of his receivers.
In trying to do so, CJ Stroud noticed his pocket collapsing and scrambled towards his right. But outside linebacker Harold Landry pulled him down and out of bounds, leading to a safety. Seeing this development, former player Emmanuel Acho posted the clip on his X account with an call back caption.
Did CJ Stroud run out the back of the end zone, or get sacked out the back or the end zone? ???@danorlovsky7, obviously you are the ultimate arbitrator. pic.twitter.com/f7voVjXbiB

This reference to Dan Orlovsky was made, as he was unsure if it was the sack that sent him out of bounds or was Stroud already on his way out. His running motion and feet suggest it could be either. Considering Orlovsky is infamous for running out of bounds, Acho tagged him to deliberate and give his expert opinion.
Shannon Sharpe questions CJ Stroud’s capabilities
The out-of-bounds safety meant the Houston Texans lost the game 32-27. Stroud started the game well and had two touchdowns to keep his team close to the Titans. However, had a lackluster second half. This led NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe to write this on his X account.
What’s happened 2 CJ Stroud? He looks and plays like a totally different player. Is it me or is he different?

Sharpe’s comments come from the fact that where the QB was expected to build upon his stellar rookie season, he has regressed. That is despite having an improved team around him. As per ESPN’s statistics, the 23-year-old has a 51.2 QBR, placing him in the bottom tier among starting QBs.
In fact, CJ Stroud’s inability to make something out of several chances in the second half of this game was embarrassing. His defensive teammates put up a sacking masterclass after downing Will Levis seven times in the first half. For their performance to go down in this fashion could take a toll on the team.
