The UFC recently uploaded the fight between Raquel Pennington and Mayra Bueno Silva at UFC 297. That fight became a point of contention for various reasons. Both fighters remain highly regarded in the women’s bantamweight division. However, the overall execution of the fight left some fans and analysts disappointed.

Mayra Bueno Silva and Raquel Pennington did not have an entertaining bout. Pennington, known for her durability and experience in long fights, capitalized on Silva’s depleted gas tank. She turned the tide and controlled the latter half of the match. This shift in control helped Pennington secure a unanimous decision win.  The scorecards read 49-46, 49-46, and 49-45 in her favor.

Despite the technical aspects of the fight, it did not live up to some fans’ expectations. Women’s MMA fights get flak from the fanbase due to the lack of finishes. Even Sean Strickland has made many controversial comments about WMMA. As such, the lack of finish and striking exchanges left much to be desired.

The UFC’s decision to upload this bout for free on their YouTube channel left the fans confused. It is not the most exciting fight. The champion Pennington has a couple of submission finishes in her UFC career. Any one of them makes sense over the Pennington vs. Bueno Silva fight if the UFC intended to promote the UFC 307 card. As such, this matter has gone viral on the internet.

After UFC 297, the bout received much flak from the MMA community. Champion Raquel Pennington came out and said, ‘Women are here to stay‘ in the face of controversy. With the UFC’s YT channel uploading the image, fans have reacted with their hilarious reactions.

After her loss to Raquel Pennington, Mayra Bueno Silva went on to fight Macy Chiasson at UFC 303. That ended in a doctor stoppage after a brutal elbow from Chiasson. The elbow in the second round caused a severe cut on Silva’s forehead. This prompted the referee to step in and call a timeout. Following the doctor’s evaluation, the fight was stopped, awarding Chiasson a TKO victory.

On the other hand, Pennington has been slated to defend her title against Julianna Pena at UFC 307. A rematch could become possible in the future, depending on how Pennington’s title defense turns out later this month.
