According to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select, Bryan’s WWE contract either expired or was about to expire after his Universal Championship match on Smackdown, which ultimately led to his banishment from the brand.

Several sources from WWE told Sapp about having heard that the deal had expired. But there was no backstage farewell for the Leader of the Yes! Movement. Now it remains to be seen that what the future holds for him.

Bryan has experienced immense success since he returned to WWE in 2018, after an injury-induced retirement. He reached the peak of his career when he turned Heel, and won the WWE Championship.

His self-absorbed environmentalist character also won a lot of praise from the fans. During this angle, he even ditched the traditional leather strap on the Championship belt in favor of an eco-friendly belt. While he took a back seat in 2020, he was back with a bang in 2021 with a feud against the Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

Bryan has now been moved to the alumni section on the WWE website. But it has not been confirmed whether he will be actually leaving the company or not. Bryan could even continue to perform for WWE without a contract, or even get re-signed.

Bryan has mentioned on several occasions that he wants to become a part-time wrestler and a full-time father. But he has also been vocal about doing some “unconventional work” for WWE. It is possible that we could see him wrestle for other promotions along with WWE.

If Bryan decides to work for other promotions along wIth WWE, it is unlikely that it would be for AEW. But there is also a possibility of seeing him completely make the jump to All Elite Wrestling. We would get more clarity on the same, as more information surfaces.
