Daniel Jones delivered another match winning performance for the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7. Jones threw 2 touchdowns and completed 67% of his passes in 38-24 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

A 6-1 record after seven games have the Colts sit pretty at the top of not just the AFC South but the AFC itself. The Colts haven’t had a start like this since 2014, when they won the division and rallied all the way into the championship game, where they lost to the New England Patriots.

It’s not unfamiliar territory, but certainly a place that hardly anyone predicted the current iteration of the Colts to be with nearly halfway through the season. Especially with Daniel Jones as the quarterback.

The former first round draft pick’s NFL career looked to be over after he bounced around from the Giants to the Vikings. He came to Indy and won the quarterback duel against Anthony Richardson.

Jones proved his selection by winning three straight games to start his stint. A fighting loss against the Los Angeles Rams followed three more wins over the Raiders, Cardinals and the Chargers, who had never lost to the Colts since moving to LA.

“It sounds like y’all didn’t know much,” Daniel Jones replied to CBS sideline reporter Evan Washburn on Sunday afternoon when asked what those surprised by Indy’s hot start to the year should know about this Colts team.

The Chargers had more possessions, first down and yards, but the Colts made more scoring plays. Michael Pittman Jr. and Tyler Warren each scored one receiving touchdown, while running back Jonathan Taylor had 16 carries for 94 yards and 3 scores on the ground.

Indy defense under Lou Anarumo‘s tutelage also deserves a lot of credit. They pressured Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert throughout the game, forcing 2 sacks, 1 interception and 2 total turnovers.

We’re just gonna keep going, keep working. We have a lot of confidence, we have a lot of good players, guys who work hard and do the right things.

Despite the hot start to the season, Daniel Jones prefers to keep his feet grounded

The Colts may be the in-form team in the NFL, but it takes one bad game for doubts to creep in. Moreover, there are still 10 games yet to be played against teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, the Pittsburgh Steelers and fixtures against divisional rivals the Jaguars, the Texans and the Titans.

Jones doesn’t want the early success go to his head and take the foot off the gas.

Obviously, that’s a good thing and we’re excited about that for sure. I think we’re proud of how we played to this point. But I’ll keep saying it and I think everyone knows we’ve got a lot in front of us…  in order to accomplish what we want to accomplish and be the team we believe we can be. We’ve got to continue to improve and work.

The Colts have -550 odds to qualify for the playoffs and +1500 odds to win the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium next February. Shane Steichen’s goal for the moment should be grabbing the first seed and the bye week.

Jones will be pivotal to the Colts’ success. He is on a one-year deal but has already proven his worth by completing 152 passes (71%) for 1790 yards, 114 overall touchdowns and 3 interceptions in seven games.
