The Indianapolis Colts front office faced a lot of heat when they picked Daniel Jones over Anthony Richardson as their quarterback for the 2025 season. It’s safe to say that Jones has managed to win over even the most cynical of fans after just two games.
Jones followed up the opening day win against the Miami Dolphins with a close fought victory against the Denver Broncos. It took the Colts’ tally to 2-0 for the season.
Danny Dimes, now Indiana Jones, threw for 316 yards from 23 completions and two overall touchdowns on Sunday (September 14).
Colts’ new placekicker, Spencer Shrader, went 5-5 in field goal conversion, including the deciding kick to snatch away the tie. The fixture generated some interesting statistics for the Colts.

According to ESPN’s Stephen Holder and Elias Sports Bureau,
The Colts have scored either a TD or FG on 14 of their 17 offensive possessions this season (82%), the highest rate by any team in its first two games of a season since at least the start of the 1980 season.

It also became the first fixture in the NFL era where neither side attempted a single punt the entire time.

Ironically, this happened in the presence of former Colts’ punter turned ESPN analyst Pat McAfee and the Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton at the Lucas Oil Stadium.

Moreover, this was the first time since 2009 that the Colts have won two straight games to start an NFL season.

Jones navigated through treacherous waters in the last couple of seasons. His parent team, the New York Giants, ran out of patience with him due to consecutive losing campaigns, even after signing a $40 million AAV deal.

10 games into the 2024 campaign, both parties mutually agreed to terminate Jones’ contract before parting ways. The Giants did not win another game the rest of the year, while Jones sat behind Sam Darnold in Minnesota, who played wild-card football.
Despite receiving an offer to stick around beyond 2024, Jones entered free agency for the second time and was picked up by the Colts. He beat out Richardson in the offseason to secure the QB1 job.
Now, the Colts stand 2-0, and through those two games, Jones has completed 74.2% of his passes for 616 total yards, 5 touchdowns, a 111.1 passer rating, and a remarkable zero turnovers.

I feel confident, and there’s a great energy about our team, our offense, and our group. We are executing at a high level. I think there are still things that we need to do better. You need to look at some of the red zone stuff today, things we can sharpen up, here and there. Things can sharpen up for sure, but I think collectively as a group we are confident about what we can be. We know that we are still growing and developing.

There’s still a long way to go, of course, but if the Colts continue to defy the odds, then perhaps they can squeeze into the playoffs or, better yet, win the AFC South for the first time since 2014. The Colts’ next game is against the Tennessee Titans in Week 3.
