The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season finally started with Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, after days of delay due to a snowstorm and it was a chaotic event. Spire Motorsports’ Daniel Saurez was in the middle of the drama, as he was one of the most aggressive racers of the day in the short track, earning him a P4 finish.
Daniel Suarez’s most controversial run-in of the day was with his good friend and 23XI Racing star driver Bubba Wallace. While fighting for track position, and hitting each other’s bumper during a caution, the Mexican American went on a radio rant targeting the Toyota driver.
Go tell the spotter of the 23 if he does that one more time, I’m gonna kick his f***ing ass.
Daniel Suarez said during the race.
It appears the first part of this quote, which I picked up mid-stream was in reference to Bubba Wallace, who was slamming into Suarez under caution. Second part was Suarez telling his team to tell SVG he was coming for him.

The 2025 Indy Cup race winner wasn’t happy with the exchange and didn’t hesitate to call Suarez out. On his team radio, Wallace called out Daniel Suarez for running into him as well as the rest of the field for no reason, exposing how aggressive the No:7 Chevy was on the day.
He’s running into me for f***ing no reason. He’s running into everybody for no reason.
Bubba Wallace on team radio.
On his post-race interview, the Spire driver shared his thoughts on the incidents with Wallace and other drivers. Despite them giving each other the bird on the track, Suarez insisted that the clash between him and Wallace was just a misunderstanding, as he asserted that it wasn’t a big deal.
With Bubba, it was just a misunderstanding. With Bubba, it wasn’t a big deal. He doesn’t know that yet.
Daniel Suarez told Toby Christie of SI.
Daniel Suarez, who finished fourth tonight, says of the run-ins he had with others that he races the way he is raced. Says the situation with Bubba was a misunderstanding and that he wasn’t pleased with some things SVG did on the track but they’ll move on without talking. pic.twitter.com/mdbx7oMKr1

Daniel Suarez made a no brainer move to spire
Coming into the 2026 season with a new team, after losing his seat at Trackhouse Racing, Suarez has a lot to prove to himself as well as the racing community. He called the move to Spire Motorsports a no-brainer move and admitted that in the past moving to Spire wasn’t never in his mind.

To me, to be quite honest with you, it was a no-brainer. How Spire Motorsports has grown the last three years — I mentioned this to Jeff — three years ago, I probably wasn’t looking at Spire Motorsports as an option.
Daniel Suarez said.
According to the former second division champion, Spire is the fastest growing team in the sport and he wants to be pe part of that history just like he has been with Trackhouse Racing, when they started as a one car team. He sees this as starting of something special.
Right now, I believe that this is the fastest-growing team in NASCAR, and I want to be part of that. I know that they are not even close to being done. They’re just getting started.
Daniel Suarez added.
The comments from the veteran racer seems rational and on point. He has one goal coming into the 2026 season, prove his worth to the garage and earn a multi-year contract extension that gives him a secure future in the sport.
