Daniil Medvedev recently spoke about his former coach, Gilles Simon. The Russian has made changes to his coaching team, confirming his split from Simon after a year of working together.
Gilles Cervara remains Medvedev’s head coach. The former world No. 1 won his first Grand Slam at the 2021 US Open. However, since reaching the top of the ATP rankings in February 2022, he has struggled with injuries and inconsistency.
Gilles (Simon) has great ideas. It’s just that we are too different on certain points so we didn’t completely manage to connect, which is important between a player and a coach. That’s why we decided to stop.
Daniil Medvedev in an interview
The 28-year-old started the 2025 season by welcoming his second child with his wife, Daria. However, he faced an early exit at the Australian Open, losing in the second round to young American Learner Tien.
"Gilles (Simon) a d'excellentes idées. C'est juste qu'on est trop différents sur certains points donc on n'a pas complètement réussi à se connecter, ce qui est important entre un joueur et un entraîneur. C'est pour cela qu'on a décidé d'arrêter."

Daniil Medvedev returns to the Open 13 Provence in Marseille. The former champion will play on indoor hard courts and lead the field. In Delray Beach, Taylor Fritz will defend his title on home soil. Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev, the Australian Open finalist, will be the top seed on clay in Buenos Aires.
Medvedev is aiming for his first title since the 2023 Rome Masters. He won in Marseille back in 2021 but has not played there since. After a surprising loss to Mattia Bellucci in Rotterdam last week, he hopes to bounce back.
Learner Tien will compete as a wild card in Delray Beach. The 19-year-old had a strong start to the year. He reached the Next Gen ATP Finals last December. Last month, he shocked Medvedev on his way to the fourth round at the Australian Open.
