Daniil Medvedev has shared his thoughts on facing World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Russian has had a difficult time against the Italian lately, losing to him in four out of their five matches in 2024.

Medvedev believes that Sinner has been nearly unbeatable recently, meaning that you have to play at your absolute best to compete with him. The former World No. 1 added that there won’t be any hidden strategies when they face off again in Turin on Thursday, November 14.

I don’t have anything special planned. This is going to sound weird because I’ve lost a lot of matches against him, but I feel like tactically I know what I have to do. The problem is just that the guy plays very well. You can play the best match possible tactically, tennis-wise, and you can still lose. That’s the reality. It’s not an easy reality. Like I said after today’s match (Tuesday), I’m ready, I go out, I play my tennis, and if I lose by a lot, it’s okay. If I win easily, that’s perfect. If I lose with difficulty, that’s good. If I win with difficulty, that’s perfect. I’ll see how it goes. I’ll try to prepare myself tactically and I’ll go for it.

Sinner has already secured his spot in the semifinals after straight-set wins over Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz. His match against Medvedev won’t impact his qualification for the knockout stages.

For Medvedev, however, this could be a do-or-die match at the ATP Finals. The 2020 champion suffered a tough loss to Fritz in his opening match but regained momentum with a win over de Minaur.

Jannik Sinner equals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in a groundbreaking milestone

Jannik Sinner has joined Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in achieving one of the longest winning streaks on hard courts in the Open Era. After his 6-4, 6-4 victory over Taylor Fritz at the ATP Finals, Sinner became only the third player to secure 47 or more hard-court wins in consecutive seasons.

Federer first reached this milestone in 2005 and 2006. Djokovic achieved it in both 2012–2013 and 2015–2016. Now, Sinner’s impressive form has helped him reach world No. 1, and he seized key opportunities against Fritz to clinch another win.

The 23-year-old Italian said it was a “tough battle” against Fritz, though he had expected a hard match after their face-off at the US Open in September. This victory marks Sinner’s 47th straight hard-court win in 2024, a season that included his triumphs at the Australian and US Opens.

Earlier, Sinner had to withdraw from the Paris Masters due to a virus, but he’s fully recovered. Meanwhile, according to many UK betting sites, his rival Carlos Alcaraz is currently unwell, making the top seed the favorite to win the ATP Finals.
