Former Arsenal and Manchester United star, Danny Welbeck, who is currently plying his trade at Brighton, has signed a one-year extension with the English club. The forward, who was due to be a free agent this summer has decided to offer his services for another to the club he scored 6 goals for last season. Welbeck featured in 30 games for the Premier League club the last term which also saw him produce three assists in the process.

The 30-year-old’s 6 goals for Brighton last season is the second-best he has managed so far in the Premier League, only behind the striker’s 2013-14 campaign when he netted 9 times for Manchester United. Since joining Brighton, the former England international has been able to rediscover his good and the contract extension comes as a reward for just that.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far – happiness is key. Being at a club where I am really enjoying playing my football, playing under the manager, his style of play and the good people around the club, it just feels right. I’ve got the foundation now, that understanding of the group. You come to a new club and you’re learning about how things work, where you can fit in and what you need do to impact games. We developed that towards the back end of the season and I want to be pushing on and giving much, much more.”

“It’s important to feel appreciated and feel settled. Once you’re happy you can focus on doing your work, making sure you’re ready for training and games. Everything builds from there and it’s a good platform to start.”

The praises have not been one sided though as Brighton coach Graham Potter is delighted to keep hold of the striker, who he believes would have an important role to play next season by inspiring the youngsters.

“We’re delighted that he’s with us for next season. Danny has demonstrated what is expected of a top professional from the moment he arrived here. As soon as the season finished, extending his stay at the club was a top priority. He is a brilliant role model to have around the place and his experience at the very top end of the game is invaluable for helping us continue to improve as a team.”
