Over the years, the UFC community has seen many peculiar and unique fighters, each with their own distinct traits and training regimens. Currently, the former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka stands out as one such fighter, particularly known for his unconventional training methods. Recently, some UFC legends have discussed one of these unique training approaches.

In a recent episode of the JAXXON Podcast, host Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and Bear Degidio welcomed TJ Dillashaw. Interestingly, Dillashaw, a former UFC bantamweight champion, talked about Jiri Prochazka’s unique training methods. Dillashaw mentioned that these methods have helped Prochazka overcome his inner demons.

12 hours? He locks himself in a room for like days, like three, four days. He’ll lock himself in a dark room and do nothing, sensory deprivation, like you have no sense of anything. It’s supposed to be pretty like therapeutic… Like it’s meditation, you know like disconnecting yourself from your phone and from everyday life and like just trapping yourself in a room and seeing like getting in your own head and seeing your own demons.

The podcast panel was reviewing the recently concluded UFC 311 PPV event, where Prochazka competed. In his fight against Jamahal Hill, the Czech fighter showcased a dominant performance, outstriking Hill with his unorthodox fighting stance and techniques.

Following the fight, TJ Dillashaw and Rampage Jackson expressed their opinions on Prochazka. This led to a discussion about the Czech fighter’s unconventional training regimes. Notably, they discussed one of the recent training methods that Prochazka employed before his fight against Alex Pereira at UFC 303.

In this technique, the Czech fighter locked himself in a dark room for three days without food or any contact with the outside world. According to Dillashaw, this is one of the therapeutic approaches to enhance mental strength. However, this is not the only training method that Prochazka incorporates into his regimen.

Jiri Prochazka chimes up to discuss the ‘Neurovisual’ training method

While many UFC fighters attract attention through controversies, Jiri Prochazka stands out for his unique antics outside the cage. The Czech fighter often generates discussion in the UFC community due to his unconventional training methods and locations. In one instance, the Czech fighter was seen training with a single eye patch. In November 2023, ahead of his first fight with Alex Pereira, Prochazka discussed this specific training method. During a conversation with UFC content creator Nina Marie Daniele, Procházka explained the significance and technique of neurovisual training.

You can build the (eye) muscles, to see better, see sharper. So, that’s the point of the neurovisual training… The point is you see something from the short distance, like maybe your thumb. Then you see something from the long distance, three meters from here, go back-and-forth… If you know, you can strengthen your muscle in your eyes. Why you will not do that? In a cage we can do whatever.

Interestingly, the unconventional training regimes that Prochazka employed were effective against every opponent he faced, except for Pereira. Recently, the Brazilian fighter hinted at the possibility of another matchup with the Czech fighter. It will be intriguing to see if Prochazka can find a way to neutralize Pereira in a potential trilogy bout.
