World No. 1 Jannik Sinner had a smooth run at this year’s Australian Open. The Italian barely faced any challenges during the second week at Melbourne Park, winning his third Grand Slam title overall.

However, there was one match where he not only battled his opponent but also struggled with his physical condition. This happened in the fourth round against Holger Rune. His coach, Darren Cahill, shared surprising details about the top seed’s health before and after that match.

Jannik was white as a sheet. He was lucky to be on the court, helped by several breaks, the match was played in the heat of the day. We didn’t know if he would be on the court. He was so sick. We knew from the day before that he wasn’t feeling well, so he went to bed early. We cancelled his training, I think he was supposed to play around 2:30. We had a warm-up scheduled for the morning, we cancelled it and moved it to noon, and when he got on the court, he was white as a sheet. We cancelled all the training, we went to the doctor, they gave him gels to give him energy. He rested, took an ice bath to get him back in shape, and we sent him on the court without a warm-up.

Sinner defeated Rune 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. However, the match was far from straightforward, despite what the scoreline suggests. There were many momentum shifts, but the turning point came in the third set when the two played an intense rally that left both struggling to catch their breath.

Sinner continued to face physical challenges in the later matches. In the semifinal against Ben Shelton, the Italian battled cramps in the third set but still managed to beat the American in straight sets.

Jannik Sinner’s tennis future in doubt due to the doping scandal

Jannik Sinner showed unstoppable form at this year’s Australian Open, defeating Alexander Zverev in the men’s final on Sunday night. Sinner claimed a straight-sets victory, winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, to secure the first grand slam of the year.

The 23-year-old has now joined Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer as the only players in the Open Era to win three consecutive hard-court grand slam titles. With this win, he is halfway to holding all four grand slam trophies at the same time, a feat only Djokovic has achieved since Rod Laver in 1969.

Despite his success, Sinner’s future in tennis remains uncertain. He faces a potential two-year ban after testing positive for Clostebol, a banned steroid, last March. The World Anti-Doping Agency is appealing the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s decision not to suspend him, and the case will go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in April.

Sinner acknowledged the challenges ahead but stayed optimistic after his win. While the doping case casts doubt over his participation in the French Open, he focused on celebrating his Australian Open victory and expressed hope for his future in the sport.
