Darren Stewart is known for scoring remarkable knockouts inside the Octagon. However, there seemed a change in trend at UFC Vegas 6 as he showed another side of his game. Additionally, he looked quite adept about that style.

The British fighter landed some nasty shots on his opponent Maki Pitolo in the initial part of their first round. Later, Darren was quick to defend a takedown attempt from Pitolo. He then locked in a vicious guillotine choke which forced the submission at 3:41 in the first round.

Darren Stewart has been going through a lot lately. His friend was recently murdered and after this win, he wants to spit out his anger and frustration inside the Octagon. Besides that, he dedicated this win to his friend.

Following his emotional victory, Stewart said, “It was a lot. I took the fight on three weeks’ notice. I was done all the crying and I was just angry.”

Stewart improves his takedown defense

Stewart came inside the Octagon, swinging for the fences. He looked for a hail-mary knockout early in the first round. But Pitolo did everything he could avoid. However, out of desperation he shot for a takedown. But in an attempt to stuff the takedown, Steward locked in. He tightened his guillotine choke as the duo fell on the ground. The pressure from the choke forced to tap as there was still more than a minute left for the first round.

Speaking about the fight, Stewart said, “I’ve been doing that takedown defense. I didn’t have no hooks or nothing, I just went for it.”

After the UFC London was cancelled earlier this year, Darren Stewart had took a fight at short notice in Cage Warriors. But he had lost that fight to Bartosz Fabinski. Now that he has picked up a win, the British man ks now 3-1 in his last four matches.
