New Zealand eased to a 3-0 clean sweep against Bangladesh by thrashing the visitors in the third ODI at the Basin Reserve in Wellington. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Black Caps got off to a brisk start but lost both their openers in the Powerplay. It was then the Devon Conway show as the No. 3 batsman absolutely pummeled the Bangladesh bowlers and offered them no respite.

Conway got to a hundred and then, it was the turn of Daryl Mitchell to take over as he came up with the fireworks. He too got to his hundred to take New Zealand to a score of 318/6. In reply, Bangladesh never got going as they were bowled out for just 154 runs. If not for Mahmudullah‘s unbeaten 76 in 73 balls, the score could have turned out to be much worse. Jimmy Neesham shone with the ball for New Zealand by picking up a five-wicket haul.

Even as Daryl Mitchell was hitting the Bangladeshi bowlers around the park, a century did not seem to be on the cards due to the amount of overs left for him to reach the landmark. With two overs remaining in the innings, Mitchell was only on 71. He then got to 83 in the next over and needed 17 off the last over. Mustafizur Rahman steamed in to bowl the last over and the batsman came up with three fours in a row.

Mitchell then survived a close run-out call and it left him with two required off the last ball to get to a century. However, as he hit the last ball to the fielder in the deep, a second run did not seem to be on the cards at all. Mitchell went for it nevertheless and fortunately for him, Mushfiqur Rahim fumbled and couldn’t run him out, helping him get to a well-deserved hundred.
