The recent years have seen the major growth of gaming, some of which have contributed towards the eSports industry whereas some have become popular due to unique game mechanics. One such game is Genshin Impact, a role playing game that consist anime themed characters and landscapes. The game follows gacha mechanics where players can spend real money in the game to obtain exclusive skins, resources and characters. However, things went wrong when a daughter spent a whopping $20000 in the game leaving her father flabbergasted.

Genshin Impact crossed record breaking revenues the preceding year becoming the most successful role playing game ever released. The game developed by MiHoYo is free to play, however, its gacha mechanics induces the players to spend in game currency as well as real world money to purchase some exclusive items. These games have often been in the limelight as it allures teens to spend a hefty amount of money.

In one such incident, an 18 year old girl from Singapore apparently spent $20000 while buying items in the game. The girl’s father was shocked when he received such a huge bill and thought that he had been scammed. Calling out the bank officials, he learned that the transactions were legitimate.

As per the report of The Strait Times, the daughter had linked her game account, which was tied to the father’s credit card and was allegedly meant to cover her travelling expenses. The daughter spent $19,810 over a six-week period on the role playing game without her father’s consent.

Teenagers spending mindlessly in video games is nothing new in this generation as we have seen several cases of parents being shocked after seeing the unnecessary spending in different games. As a result, the games such as Genshin Impact have been criticised various number of times.
