Who would have guessed that Davante Adams has a fondness for literature? The all-pro receiver rarely allows prying eyes into his personal space, and yet here we are with a reference to the famous poet Edgar Allen Poe lighting up his social media wall.

On Friday, when everyone was getting ready for the weekend dose of college football, NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo shared a screenshot on X (previously Twitter) from Davante Adams’ Instagram. It’s the unmissable bust of Edgar Allen Poe, with a tinge of a smile that hides so many secrets.

Adams isn’t exactly someone to speak in riddles; he prefers to come right out and say whatever is on his mind, but this is different. It could easily be just a social media post, and yet the veteran wideout rarely communicates through it.

On the flip side, it can be interpreted as an answer to which team Adams will end up playing for in the future.

Football fans stir wild theories about Davante Adams’ future

The natural course of action from fans was to connect possible dots between Edgar Allen Poe and football. It does sound like an oxymoron, but Poe’s works tell a different story.

Quite possibly, his most critically acclaimed work was his first published poem, ‘The Raven.’ It starts to paint a slightly clearer picture of what Adams is trying to convey. Poe spent his last few days and has been laid to rest at Westminster Hall in Baltimore, Washington, and the name of the Ravens’ mascot is Poe to honor the celebrity writer.

Other teams besides the Ravens

Now let’s move on to the more literal side of the post. Allen is a common first and last name in the NFL. However, there’s no one more popular than Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. The Bills have no talent shortage in the wide receiver core but lack an out-and-out WR 1.

Davante Adams is a first-ballot future Hall of Famer but has never won a Super Bowl. Both Ravens and Bills have a strong enough roster to win the Lombardi in Louisiana next year. However, the likeliest place for the 31-year-old still remains the New York Jets, where his old teammate Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback.

Adams has been rambling since the off-season about how much he admires the 4x NFL MVP and would love to play with him again. Ever since Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce benched Adams for allegedly behaving out of character, the speculation of a move to the New York Jets has spread like wildfire.

There’s another explanation that most fans overlooked. In Poe’s poem The Ravens’, the character of the Raven said ‘Nevermore,’ which is a dig at the Raiders for not meeting his compensation. Furthermore, the name Edgar Allen Poe is also an anagram spelling, meaning the pledge Adams and Rodgers once made. Even though it’s farfetched, it does make sense. And also the fact that Poe spent most of his life in Bronx, New York.

All three teams—Ravens, Bills, and Jets—would love to have Adams on their team. Yet the Raiders also need to evaluate their side of the business as well. Unless they don’t get a good deal in return for giving away one of their biggest assets, the Raiders will keep prolonging the trade.
