Bill Belichick makes brutally honest admission about Davante Adams amid his fallout with Raiders
Bill Belichick believes a second-round pick for an aging Davante Adams with a big salary is a massive risk for a team that wants to take him out of the Raiders' hands.

Davante Adams remains on the cusp of a big move, but the question every stat merchant wants to know is the demands of the Raiders in exchange for the All-Pro wide receiver. Well, there’s one thing that may have to be erased from their bucket list: a second-round pick.
Since debuting for the Green Bay Packers in 2014, Adams established himself among the top wideouts with consistent performances. The 31-year-old is currently on a hot streak of four consecutive 1000 receiving yards seasons (the best being in 2021 with 1553 yards and 11 touchdowns).
Even after tensions and a dip in performance during his second year in Vegas, Admas still managed more than 1100 yards and 8 touchdowns. However, after just a few weeks into the 2024 season, the Raiders’ head coach Antonio Pierce benched the former second-round pick for his lack of team-first attitude.
This sparked the conversation of a trade, even though Adams still has two years left in his Raiders contract. Several names have come up as a possible landing spot, but the likeliest outcome is a reunion with former Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers at the Jets.
That’s only one part of the deal. In a trade, the Jets, or any other team for that matter, has to give up something of equal value. Trade analysts concluded that the best the Raiders can receiver in exchange for Davante Adams is a second-round pick. However, former NFL head coach Bill Belichick doesn’t buy it.
Not for a second-round pick, which supposedly is what they’re [the Las Vegas Raiders] asking for.
Bill Belichick said during his routine appearance on the Underdog podcast.
Bill Belichick cites the reason behind disliking the idea of a second-round pick in exchange for Davante Adams
Belichick made a name for himself as a shrewd tactician while managing the New England Patriots for two decades. Even though he won six Super Bowls in Boston, there was one common philosophy that he always stuck by.

Belichick never drafted high for a receiver. On most occasions, he looked to later round, value-for-money players. The Patriots will polish and make them world-beaters. Perhaps that’s part of the reason, mixed with Davante Adams’ age and his massive salary, that Belichick believes a second-round pick is too big a risk.
I don’t see how anybody is going to give up a second-round pick for him. You’d have to feel like Adams is going to take us to the promised land and he’s going to get us over the hump this year, because he’s also got a big salary. It’s a tough situation.
Bill Belichick quipped.
"I don't see how anybody's going to give up a 2nd round pick for him."

Perhaps he took a page out of his Randy Moss deal, the only occasion Belichick strayed from his rule of not playing with a top receiver. Coincidentally, it was the Raiders who sent the Hall of Famer to the Patriots in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in addition to a contract restructure, even though Moss was in his prime.
