The Los Angeles Dodgers landed Tarik Skubal through a trade from the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night. On Sunday, manager Dave Roberts defended the team after they found themselves facing severe backlash once again.

Skubal was in the final year of his deal with the Tigers this season. As a result of this, there was a lot of speculation regarding his future with the team.

Last offseason, reports emerged that the Dodgers were interested in bringing him in. However, a move did not materialize that time. With the trade deadline this Monday, reports once again started linking Skubal to the Dodgers.

This finally came true on Saturday. The Dodgers gave up outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handers River Ryan and Brady Smith in exchange for Skubal.

The Dodgers have found themselves under heat in recent years following their big-money moves. Fans on social media have many times accused the team of “ruining baseball” and urged the league for the implementation of a salary cap.

After they acquired Skubal, social media was left angry once again. Some critics expressed that this move could be one of the reasons for a potential lockout next year.

Dave Roberts and the Dodgers, however, are not concerned with the noise from outside. While speaking with the reporters, the 54-year-old claimed that there is always a “blowback” when they are involved and expressed his love for the front office.

It just seems like there’s always blowback with us. … There’s nothing that we did that no one else couldn’t have done. I just love our front office.

The move of Skubal further strengthens an already strong pitching rotation of the Dodgers. There have been, though, some cracks in this in recent times.

Reigning National League MVP Shohei Ohtani has not pitched since July 3rd following an issue in his knee. Meanwhile, starters Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are yet to return to the team.

Skubal joins them and 2025 World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the rotation. His addition also boosts the chances of a historic three-peat for the Dodgers.

Dave Roberts claims Dodgers got outplayed as team gets swept by the Red Sox

While the Los Angeles Dodgers landed 2-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal through a trade, the weekend was not a good one for them. They lost 3 games in a row and got swept by the red-hot Boston Red Sox. Following this defeat, Dave Roberts expressed that his team got outplayed.

The Dodgers, who were 69-40 after their series win against the Seattle Mariners, took on the Red Sox. The American League East team has been on a rise since the start of July and has taken the league by storm.

On Friday, they took down the 2-time defending champions 9-4 before edging them out 3-2 on Saturday. The Dodgers were leading 3-2 at one stage in the game on Sunday.

However, 3 solo home runs in the third inning turned the game around. Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu and Masataka Yoshida all went yard against Emmet Sheehan to put the visitors 5-3 up. In the end, the Red Sox ran away with an 8-4 win and improved their record to 23-3 since July 3rd.

As for the Dodgers, this was just the 2nd time this year that they had been swept. Roberts did not mince his words in his talk with the reporters and claimed that the Red Sox “outplayed” them.

They outplayed us. They were hungrier.

Dave Roberts said as per Fredo Cervantes

So while Skubal will give their current pitching rotation a huge boost, the team will need their bats to produce some runs. Their next series is against the Chicago Cubs, where Skubal will make his debut on Tuesday.
