The Los Angeles Dodgers were swept aside by the Arizona Diamondbacks this weekend. Following their first sweep of the season, manager Dave Roberts got honest about his team and claimed that the D-backs outplayed them in the 3-game series.

The Dodgers entered the final series of the 1st half with a 61-33 record after winning series against the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres. With these triumphs against their division rivals, many expected them to enter the All-Star Break on a winning run.

That did not happen. On Friday, after the team pulled Shohei Ohtani from his start, they lost 9-3. On Saturday, Yoshinobu Yamamoto struggled from the mound as the D-backs won 9-2.

On Sunday, the Phoenix-based side completed the sweep. A 5-3 win sealed a 3-game sweep of the reigning champions. This was the first time they had been swept by an opponent in the 2026 season.

This was the first time the D-backs had swept the Dodgers in Los Angeles since 2017. It was also their first series sweep of the Dodgers since 2018.

The LA-based side were not at their best in this set. They made several defensive mistakes and were outscored 23-8.

In the press conference after the game, Roberts did not mince his words. The 54-year-old got real about his team’s performance and expressed that their opponents wanted it more than them.

At the end of the day, they outplayed us. They wanted it more than we did. … We have not played well for the last five or six games and every game is important.

Dave Roberts told the reporters

For the moment, Roberts and his team will turn their attention towards the All-Star Break. While he will manage the National League team once again this year, stars Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Andy Pages and Justin Wrobleski will be part of the All-Star Game. Superstar Shohei Ohtani will not play in this event following an issue with his knee.

Despite a mini-slump, Dodgers still have the best record in the league

Before this sweep, they had lost one game against the Rockies. They had also lost the final game of the series against the Padres and failed to sweep them.

While they won these two series, the sweep against the Diamondbacks means that they have lost 5 of their last 7 games. From a 59-32 record, the Dodgers have gone 61-36, a little worrying sign for Roberts and his team.

They are also the only team to win 60 games before the All-Star Break this season. This gives them the best record in the league after the first half of the season. The Milwaukee Brewers, who also got swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates, have the second-best record at 59-37.

Following the All-Star Break, they will be on a 9-game road trip which includes series against the New York Yankees, the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets. The showdown against the Yankees in New York will be their first trip there since the 2024 World Series triumph.

As for the Phillies, they have been on a rise in recent weeks. After a slow start, they have turned things around and are just 2 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East standings.
