David de Gea is by far, one of United’s best keepers in the 21st century. The 33-year-old left Manchester United back in 2023 after the club decided not to renew his contract following failed negotiations. The keeper left United as the player with the seventh-most appearances in the club’s history and is surprisingly, yet to find a new club!

Even though fans criticized the club for letting a player of his mettle go for free, he remains without a club for other reasons. It is understood that De Gea wants to play for a club that competes for European football and also gives him a starting role in the line-up. His significant wage demands, coupled with the search for a club that offers a long-term contract, has stalled negotiations till now.

That being said, fans were excited when Serie A club Genoa CFC made a move for the player. The club finished eleventh in Italy’s top flight last season and wanted to bolster their chances of moving up the table with a signing like that of De Gea’s.

However, recent reports claim that the deal with Genoa has fallen off after discovering his ‘excessive’ wage demands.

Fans react to David de Gea failing to find a club yet again

David de Gea last played a game of professional football back in 2023. The Spaniard has been without a club for over 13 months now and a few fans have started to feel that he should just retire. At the age of 33, a fan said that his most realistic option would be to cash out in the Saudi Pro League. Fans judged the player for his ‘foolish’ decision to turn down an offer from Al-Nassr.

It was also reported that Cristiano Ronaldo himself asked for the player’s signing in the winter transfer window. A fan reminded the player that he wasn’t going to earn £375,000 a week anymore unless he swallowed his pride and went to Saudi. Fans felt confused as to why a rich man like De Gea would insist on an unrealistic salary despite not being picked up by a club.

Some made fun of his ‘shameless’ pursuit of money and said that his playing days were already over. Others blamed Ed Woodward for hyping up his ego and offering him such a high salary in the first place. Even though Manchester United let go of De Gea, fans laughed at the club’s current situation, after bringing in Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
