The Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship finally got the golden touch of UFC superstar Conor McGregor. The ‘Notorious’ recently took everyone by surprise when he announced that he’s now a part owner of BKFC. David Feldman, the founder of BKFC, backed his decision and talked about the huge collaboration.
While talking to the press, Feldman expressed his admiration for Conor McGregor. He gave the example of McGregor’s latest movie release, which took the Amazon streaming service by storm. David Feldman talked about McGregor’s influence and how he wanted that in the promotion.
You got the guy who has the most downloaded or most viewed movie in Amazon history. It wasn't because of his acting, it was because he is Conor McGregor….He's one of the most popular guys in the entire world. He's one of the most popular or influential combat sports fighters of all time. Anything he touches turns to gold. I want that Midas touch for us so we brought it over.David Feldman via BKFC Press Conference
McGregor is currently busy preparing for his much anticipated UFC return at UFC 303. The ‘Mystic Mac’ is scheduled to take on Michael Chandler in a welterweight bout, which has fans on their toes. It will be the first bout for the fighter in three years since he broke his leg. However, during all this, the Irishman has kept himself busy with extending his business empire.
Last year, during a BKFC event, McGregor made an appearance and declared his intention to run for the promotion. He even went so far as to engage in a playful face-off against Mike Perry. While Feldman wanted to have McGregor as a fighter at BKFC, he might not have expected him to be a co-owner of the promotion.
Dana White’s biggest superstars turned into his competitors
The UFC is the biggest MMA promotion in the world, and Dana White has given a platform to many fighters. However, many UFC superstars started their own fighting promotions after they parted ways with the UFC.
One of the most popular fighters to do that is former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. After retiring from UFC, the Dagestani started his MMA promotion, Eagle FC. White was impressed by Nurmagomedov but did warn him about the risks of the fight business. Similarly, Jorge Masvidal has his own promotion named Gamebred BareKnuckle MMA. The former BMF holder labeled his promotion as the ‘Most Violent Show on Earth.’
However, Conor McGregor becoming the co-owner of BKFC is definitely a unique case in this aspect. Unlike others, McGregor is still under the UFC contract and is scheduled to fight in June. But this didn’t stop him from competing with his boss, Dana White, in the fight business.
